According to a study in medical journal Gut, bowel cancer can be prevented with a daily dosage (75mg) of aspirin. Apparently you will receive greater benefits the longer you do this as well.
Volunteers who took part in the study were asked to take one 75mg – lower than the recommended dose for a child – dose of aspirin a day and saw their chances of getting the disease reduced by 30%.
The cancer itself affects 38,500 people in the UK each year so these results could help a significant amount of people.
Aspirin has also been linked with reducing the risk of dementia, pregnancy-related condition pre-eclampsia, breast cancer and heart attacks.

Despite this, aspirin does come with some health warnings. Just a small amount of aspirin can cause such side effects as dizziness, internal bleeding and stomach irritation. People with high blood pressure can also be at risk because it can increase the chance of a stroke caused by bleeding into the brain.

So, best to check with your doctor first!

If you’re a shy person or someone who is uncomfortable in social situations fear not, help is at hand. Scientists have developed a nasal spray to help overcome these feelings.
The spray contains the hormone oxytocin (a love hormone) which is known to increase empathy and bonding as it is given to mothers to help them bond with their new born babies.
US and Israeli scientists conducted a test of 27 healthy adult men, giving them the hormone or a placebo via a nasal spray and then asking them to perform an ‘empathic accuracy task’ – which measures their powers of reading the thoughts and feelings of others.
The results could not only help people who suffer with social deficiencies but also with conditions such as autism.

A recent study conducted by Cardiff University, between 200 and 2007 backs a call for the introduction of Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL). Data analysis for the research was carried out to estimate the number of lives that could be saved.
Under the proposed policy newly qualified drivers aged between 17 & 24 will be banned from driving at night and from carrying passengers of a similar age, for up to two years. Similar schemes are already operated in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and parts of the USA.
The researches have claimed that such a policy could save 200 lives and result in 1,700 fewer injuries. Research also suggests that one in five new drivers crashes within their first six months on the road. The Cardiff team says that by targeting them with graduated driver licensing, many accidents might be avoided.
The research will be presented at the World Safety Conference, which will hear from other experts on how road safety could be improved.

If you’ve experienced problems with your vision for as long as you care to remember now, you’re certainly not alone, and there are millions of people in the UK who struggle with their sight on a daily basis.

Whilst being long or short sighted might not sound like a significant problem for those who don’t suffer with it, it can have a major impact on your day to life, as well as being incredibly infuriating.

Even though there are some really stylish specs available nowadays, glasses can be very restrictive- especially if you’re the active type.

Contact lenses also aren’t for everyone, and some people find it a struggle to master the art of wearing and removing them.

You don’t have to resign yourself to the fact that your sight will forever get in the way of allowing you to enjoy life to its fullest though, as laser eye treatment could be the answer to your prayers.

Lots of people have undergone laser eye treatment and haven’t looked back since, and with constant developments in technology, the number of satisfied patients is set to rise even further.

Considering the benefits which can be gained from undergoing the surgery, it’s really cost effective, so stop struggling with your sight and make that move to see the world much more clearly.

Protect the brain with Yoga

Author: Ian 09/02/2010

If you suffer or have suffered with stress or even depression then you should try Yoga.  According to recent study researchers have found that the calming exercise can help relax your mind.
It has been discovered that sessions of Yoga can help boost levels of the amino acid GABA, which is a chemical in the brain that is essential for a relaxed mind. A low level of GABA can be associated with depression and anxiety. However, just three sessions of Yoga a week can help boost the levels of the chemical.
After sessions of Yoga the participants of the study had their brains scanned to measure levels of GABA. The applicants also reported lower levels of anxiety and increases in their mood than walkers.
