It has been discovered that sessions of Yoga can help boost levels of the amino acid GABA, which is a chemical in the brain that is essential for a relaxed mind. A low level of GABA can be associated with depression and anxiety. However, just three sessions of Yoga a week can help boost the levels of the chemical.
After sessions of Yoga the participants of the study had their brains scanned to measure levels of GABA. The applicants also reported lower levels of anxiety and increases in their mood than walkers.
